Would be great to have a few MINIs show up.

Date: Sunday September 26th, 2010

Location: BC Driving Centre, at the Pitt Meadows BC airport

Time: 8:30am to 4:00pm

Course Fee: $150 per driver, $140 for valid BMW Club members course fee includes tax and catered on site lunch for drivers

Join us for another of our popular Dancing with Cones Skills Challenge practicing and fun for BMW CCBC members and other car enthusiasts.

This is basically a full day of skills practice on an autocross / slalom course with Driving Unlimited instructors on hand to cover important basic safety skills and provide feedback and coaching.

And lots and lots of 'seat time' on the course. A great value!

2010 Vancouver-Whistler All British Run Sept 18

The 2010 Vancouver-Whistler All British Run is on Sept 18 this year. This will be the 18th year it has run. The British iron will meet at Cam Clark Ford Lincoln in the North Shore Auto Mall between 9am-11am on Saturday Sept 18 prior to departure.

For registered participants there will be coffee/juice, donuts, fun ralley to Whistler, free parking in Whistler at Blackcomb Square. There are also dash plaques for every car and a few prizes.

You are welcome to take in whistler for a few hours and return to lower mainland or you can stay overnight with disounted rates at the Whistler Crystal Lodge.

Last year we stayed overnight and returned to the lower mainland via Duffy Lake road and Fraser Canyon-fabulous drive and scenery!

The Vancouver Mini Club usually has a few participants so the Classic Minis will be out motoring too!

Shameless plug for one of the events the BMW Car Club of BC hosts for enthusiasts. {BMW and club membership not required]

Sunday August 15 2010 at British Columbia Driving Center at Pitt Meadows Airport

A full day of 'dancing with cones' and of Skills practicing and challenge fun for BMW Car Club of BC members and other car enthusiasts.
Best enjoyed if you have previous experience such as a Car Control or similar session.

This is basically a full day of skills practice on a slalom course with Driving Unlimited instructors on hand to cover important basic safety skills and provide feedback and coaching.

Session includes on site catered lunch.
This is a full day session from 8:30 am until 4:00pm
Event Fees:
Course fee is $150 CDN $140 for valid club members.
Discounted early registration fee will be available until 1 month prior to event.

Key things to know:
limited to 30 cars max
average wait time between runs 5-6 minutes
average number of runs per day about 36-40

A note about the price, good value for money. Most auto crosses cost about $40-$60, but we charge $150 for these days .

That means we get questioned on the price. Here's the scoop:
Based on track time and runs the user gets, in both cases we are very similar. A $40 cost event with about 8 runs is $5 per run.
At dancing with cones days you get 35-40 runs for the cost and lunch is part of the deal. So we figure our per run cost is also $5 or less.

The challenge is, can you handle a full day of lots and lots of runs with hardly any waiting around...?

and no cone chasing, plus coach/instructors from Driving Unlimited available

Can you tell I'm trying to get a few more folks to sign up for this coming Sunday the 15th? You see, we don't want to overwork the current sign up of only 15 by making them have to deal with 75-80 runs or more....

MINI Cooper S Parts 2002-2006 plus convertibles to 2008

MINI Cooper S Rear Sway Bar(17mm bar with extra hole per side 20mm forward to reduce understeer)-$100.

MINI Cooper S K&N drop in air filter-$20.

MINI Cooper S Sport Springs(great upgrade for stock MINI Cooper struts)-$50.

MINI Cooper S Camshafts-2 are good used($75 each).

MINI Cooper S Cylinder Head fully assembled and was removed at pre-delivery inspection for JCW conversion-$999.

MINI Cooper S Rebuilt Cylinder Head Core. This came from a 2005 MINI Cooper S with 10K miles. It has been decoked, cleaned, inspected, pressure tested, refaced(.006" off to true head face), valves cleaned, valves lapped into valve seats and reassembled with new valve stem seals. Pressure testing and machine work done locally by Lordco(I have the receipt)-$749 for the rebuilt core and $849 for camshaft and rockers.

I'll try to post pictures of these parts in subsequent posts.

Allouette Lake run - cancelled

Sorry to say that we have had to cancel the Allouette Lake drive on the 25th of July.
We don't have anyone to lead the drive.

We will instead concentrate our efforts on the Mt. Baker run on the 31st of July, only a week and two days away. This is shaping up to be a good drive !!

Summer temp = NO MORE Chevron 94 gas issues

Heads up my fellow R53 owners,

I have kept filling up my R53 MCS with Chevron 94 gas, cold starts and all, since we started noticing this issue with the change that Chevron made to the formulation back at the end of the month of May. This is when they switch from the 'winter' to the 'summer' formulation.

Well, I have waited a week or so before making this report today.

As of July 5th, which coincidentally happened to be pretty much the first day when temps started to consistently be in the 20's, my car has started up the first time every time.

Just to be absolutely sure, I waited till this morning to see if the car would start up just fine, after having come home early enough (around 6.30pm last night) and leaving the car overnight long enough before starting it up this morning (at 8am). Also, temperatures dropped a fair bit last night.

Temp in my parkade was indicated at 19.5C when I started the car up, and it started on the first crank.

Observations:

Engine temp gauge is not right at the zero indicator when the car starts up. Since the outside temp is now at least 20C, it seems that the car starts to warm up almost right away, as the engine temp needle starts to move up slowly from the get go, instead of the usual 2-3 minutes or so before it does so.

Maybe one could attribute this to my ECU finally adjusting to the gas formulation, but seeing that it was cold starting right up to the point where our weather drastically got hotter overnight, I feel more inclined to attribute it to the weather, as the temperature increase was approx 5C or more all at once.

To make sure that the cold start didn't disappear only because I've been driving at a later hour during last week's mini heatwave (nothing like a drive at 10pm to cool oneself off when your home is still hot like a sauna), I waited till this morning, when the car had been sitting still for over 12 hours, to make sure the engine had cooled down completely.

Anyways, to make a long story short - for myself at least, with this warm weather, the Chevron 94 gas issue no longer exists for me.

It will be interesting to see if it comes back again come October/November..... when does Chevron switch back to their 'winter' formnulation?

This drive would be with the Puget Sound MINI motoring club, and our two clubs would drive to the top of Mt. Baker.

The date is rather close, the 31st of July.

Ice Cream Run - July 10

Sat. July 10 is the date for our ice cream run from Spanish Banks to Whiterock.
Unfortunately none of the club executive are available to lead the drive.
This will be then, a "self guided" drive. The directions will be posted on the site shortly, in the form of a google map, which can be downloaded and printed out.
Start time is 10am, Spanish banks parking lot, just past the large snack stand.
The drive will wind its way to Whiterock beach for ice cream.

MMW 2010 day one

Day one started with a car show in the park across from the hotel. Then a photo shoot in another park beside the hotel. After supper was a short drive out to Naramata. There was a little delay because of heavy rain that blew thru but it did not dampen the drive.
