BC Hydro has been doing work near an intersection near home for the past month or so. Since they've been working the lights operate differently. Instead of me having to trigger a green light when I approach the main street from the side street, I now have a green light every morning. Yes, the lights still cycle but I think the side street may have a longer light now. I've only seen it red on the way to work once in the past month.
This morning I was heading west as usual and was about a block and a half from the light, which was green, when I saw a car go through north/south on a red light. He had obviously tired of waiting for his light to turn green as his front end was slightly raised as though he had just started to accelerate and he wasn't going too fast. Shortly after, another car went through the red light, this one going very fast. He obviously had not stopped at all. I approached my green light and came to a full stop before making my right hand turn. There was a pick-up truck stopping for the red light. I don't know whether he was going to stop anyway or stopped because he saw me. There was a truck behind me who had pulled out of a driveway so hadn't seen the two cars go through the red light. He must have thought I was crazy stopping for a green light.
So just because you have the right of way and a green light doesn't mean it's safe to proceed. At least not in Langley on 200th Street. Even though I would have been in the right if there had been an accident, I don't want to risk getting smacked. I like my car and all of my limbs.
Be careful out there. They're crazy. __________________ 2006 MCS JCW CE CR/W |

anybody in the club drive in Manila, Philippines before. After being there the first time, I told myself I should never complain about Vancouver traffic again (even though I still do). __________________
